Sarah Koppelman (Philips), Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager

Sarah came to the Mount St. Helens Institute all the way from Kansas. She began her career here as an intern in the summer of 2010. Sarah returned the next four summers as an Interpretive Ranger with Forest Service where she helped the public connect with the Mountain she loves.  She’s worked at many great Pacific Northwest Environmental Education organizations, including the Oregon Zoo, Trackers Earth, and the Sauvie Island Center. Sarah returned to the Institute in 2019 where she serves as the Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager. Sarah's a Certified Volunteer Administrator with a deep commitment to stewardship and she is characterized by her indomitable cheerfulness.

Sarah spends her summers hiking and backpacking with her faithful guitar. Winter means cozying up at home, baking treats and crocheting. No matter what time of year it is, you can always count on Sarah for fun nature facts.
