Volcano Ambassadors

Share your passion for the outdoors with others at visitor centers on the mountain

The Mount St. Helens Institute’s Volcano Ambassadors are some of Mount St. Helens' greatest resources.

We’re proud of and grateful for our volunteers who, since 2005, have logged thousands of hours with visitors from around the world. Stationed at visitor centers around the volcano, our Volcano Ambassadors greatly enhance visitors’ experiences at the volcano as they share this unique environment with them by recommending hikes & viewpoints, explaining the natural history of the mountain, discussing the best places to view wildlife, and more. Working on the front lines, a Volcano Ambassador is often the very first person a visitor encounters during their visit.

You’ll be rewarded with new knowledge, stronger communication skills, and a chance to spend more time in one of the Pacific Northwest’s most interesting environments: a volcano!

Volcano Ambassador Visitor Center Locations:

  • Johnston Ridge Observatory (May-October once highway 504 is repaired)
  • Mount St. Helens Visitor Center at Seaquest State Park (Year-round)
  • The Science & Learning Center at Coldwater (May-October)
