Mount St. Helens Institute staff will provide an experience tailored to fit your needs and interests, as well as add in some incredible storytelling to give you a sense of place in the rich history of Mount St. Helens.


WINTER ADVENTURES


Explore Mount St. Helens’ majesty in winter and see what makes Mount St. Helens so special! Depending on snow level, Winter Adventures may include snowshoeing or wintry hiking on trails on the south side of the volcano.


Minimum Fee: $450 for the first six registrations
Additional Fee: $75 for each additional person

SUMMIT CLIMB

This classic climb to the rim of Mount St. Helens offers an amazing opportunity to reach the top of the Pacific Northwest’s most spectacular volcanoes and learn about the area’s natural and cultural history in the comfort of a guided group. Designed for first time climbers or those wishing to learn from our experienced and knowledgeable mountain guides, the Summit Rim Climb provides an unforgettable adventure to those bold enough to climb an active Cascade Volcano!


Minimum Fee: $920 for the first four registrations
Additional Fee: $230 for each additional person
Max Group Size: 10


GLACIER OVERLOOK HIKE

See Mount St. Helens from a new angle! This Glacier Overlook Hike, formerly Crater Glacier View Climb, will take you up to the mountain like you’ve never seen before. We hike up towards the crater from the Pumice Plain to visit Loowit Falls and find awe-inspiring, up-close views of the crater with its Domes and Glacier. The views to the north include Johnston Ridge, Spirit Lake, the Mount Margaret Backcountry, Mount Adams, the Goat Rocks Wilderness, and Mount Rainier!


Minimum Fee: $700 for the first four registrations
Additional Fee: $175 for each additional person

INTO THE CRATER HIKE (weekdays only)

This is truly a bucket list adventure – a hike into the crater of an active volcano! With a professional geologist to explain the creation of the domes and canyons, pumice fields and lava beds, we will travel across the Pumice Plain to the Goat Rocks Fan and then high up into the crater breach to the snout of Crater Glacier, with astounding views of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, and Spirit Lake. This is as close as you can get! This trip spends two nights at our Field Camp, near Windy Ridge, with canvas wall-tents, gourmet meals from our outdoor kitchen, and hot drinks and s'mores by the fireside.
