See Mount St. Helens from a new angle! This Glacier Overlook Hike, formerly Crater Glacier View Climb, will take you up to the mountain like you’ve never seen before. We hike up towards the crater from the Pumice Plain to visit Loowit Falls and find awe-inspiring, up-close views of the crater with its Domes and Glacier. The views to the north include Johnston Ridge, Spirit Lake, the Mount Margaret Backcountry, Mount Adams, the Goat Rocks Wilderness, and Mount Rainier!
Difficulty: Non-technical but strenuous scramble

Duration: Approximately 8 hours (9:00 am to 5:00 pm)
Minimum Age: 12+ (minors must be accompanied by an adult)
Pace: ~1-2 miles/hour with breaks
Hike Description: From our meeting place at Windy Ridge Viewpoint, we will descend the Truman trail (#207) and down to the Pumice Plain. We will follow through the heart of the blast zone along the Truman trail and then Willow Springs Trail (#207A), and connect with the Loowit Trail and short spur to Loowit Falls. We will then venture off-trail up a 2000 year old lava flow for 0.5 mile to our peak spot on a ridge with an amazing view of the crater and Crater Glacier. We will head back to Windy Ridge via the Loowit Trail (#216) and the Windy Trail (#216E).
