2021 Guided Adventures

We're excited to announce that Guided Adventures at Mount St. Helens are back in 2021! Beginning in January, you can snowshoe to an icy waterfall on a Winter Adventure, challenge yourself to a Summit Climb, take a leisurely Mushroom Forage in the forest, or relax overnight in the shadow of a volcano on our Into the Crater Hike. See all of our adventures below.

Guided Adventures during COVID-19

The health and safety of our Participants, Guides, and Volunteers continues to be our top priority. We have developed and strengthened our safety precautions for every Guided Adventure and are happy to answer any questions you have (contact climb@mshinstitute.org). For more details about our COVID-19 specific policies and precautions, see our Program Policies. We understand this is a challenging time for planning ahead. We have a COVID-19 Reassurance Cancellation Policy (valid through 2021) stating that registrant cancellations due to illness and/or pandemic related restrictions will be fully refundable, less 3% credit card processing fee.

MEDICAL ASSESMENT: Participants, Guides, and Volunteers will complete a COVID screening form prior to every trip, to evaluate any possible COVID-19 symptoms or exposure. All participants, Guides, and Volunteers are encouraged to stay home if they feel unwell or have been exposed to COVID-19.

TRAVEL: We expect you to follow Federal, State, Public Lands and Health Authority regulations and guidance on travel. Please reconsider travel if you are coming from an area with a large outbreak. For Washington and Oregon residents, please visit Washington Governor Inslee’s page and Oregon Governor Brown’s page for travel information for the county in which you live.

FACE COVERINGS: Participants on MSHI trips are required to bring a face covering (such as a cloth mask or KN95). A face covering must be worn any time the group is not hiking, when you pass others on the trail in either direction, when you cannot maintain physical distancing, or when otherwise instructed by the Guide. Read more about CDC-recommended face coverings here.

GROUP SIZE: Each group will have a maximum of 10 participants from up to 10 different households.

PHYSICAL DISTANCING: Minimum of 6 feet’ is required between household members, including from other hikers on the trail.

RENTAL EQUIPMENT: All MSHI rental equipment such as snowshoes, microspikes, ice axes, and trekking poles are sanitized between users.
