Eileen Kiely first summited Mt St Helens in 2002, at the age of 43. It opened the world of climbing to her, and in the past decade as a climb leader for the Mazamas, she has led hundreds of climbers to the summit of Mt Hood, Rainier, and dozens of other Cascade Mountains. She is an active instructor in ski mountaineering, avalanche safety, and basic and intermediate mountaineering skills, but her favorite part of climbing remains helping novices reach their first summit. In the winter, Eileen lives in Sunriver, OR, and works as a ski instructor at Mt Bachelor. Her certifications include Wilderness First Responder, Avalanche 2, and Professional Ski Instructors of America. She also enjoys trekking around the world, including Kilimanjaro, Peru, and most recently, 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago in France and Spain.
