Dave joined the MSHI in May and brings over three decades of backcountry experience. He is an enthusiastic outdoorsman, long-distance hiker, canoer and a budding bike-packer. His passion for the wilderness ignited in 1983 on a serendipitous Cub Scout hike to Park Butte, Mt Baker and a family visit to Mount St Helens, where a 10-year-old boy’s path, vision, and spirit were instantly changed forever. Having grown up in a Navy family and as a retired Naval Officer himself, he traveled the world until choosing the Pacific Northwest as his home-ever-after. Now he can be found exploring the remote reaches of the Cascades or the Olympics, or pedaling the dusty farm roads of the Oregon high desert. He proudly dedicates this new chapter of his life to helping others find their passion for our natural world through wilderness exploration, education and stewardship.
