COVID-19 Response - [Updated 3/18/20]

Dear Mount St. Helens Community,

These are challenging times. We are continually thinking about all of our friends, partners, and fellow community members who are experiencing difficulties and hardship. We are deeply appreciative of those who are helping to keep us safe, healthy, and with access to food and supplies.

We believe in the importance of science in informed decision-making. These recent and unfolding events absolutely require reliance upon scientific expertise and understanding to cut through the noise and misinformation. In response to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to suspend education programs and public events through at least early June. At this time we do not intend to cancel our outdoor guided programs after April 30. It is difficult to predict how the coronavirus will impact the summer; we will update our community as information becomes available to us.

During this unprecedented crisis, our first and foremost concern is the health and safety of our staff, volunteers, and program participants. We will continue to monitor and act upon the advice issued by the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control, and the Washington State Department of Health.

We are working to adapt programming as possible and will notify everyone of changes. We are also in the process of informing all schools, participants, and volunteers of program cancellations. We will post announcements about public event cancellations.

We will miss our friends in the interim, but look forward to seeing you all on the volcano when we can.

Take care of your families, friends, neighbors, and yourselves, and stay healthy.
