International Volunteers

Each year, at least one international volunteer joins the interpretive team at Johnston Ridge Observatory. We’re looking for recent college graduates with an interest in geology and volcanic landscapes, who want to get experience as a ranger at one of the most visited places on Mount St. Helens.

    International volunteers are paid a stipend and are provided housing in shared staff quarters on Mount St. Helens.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service skills & a willingness to be flexible, and help out where needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, ecology, or another science focused and related field.
  • At least 18 years old.

Recruitment Information:

Recruitment begins November and ends in February.
