Community Events

Our mission is to advance understanding and stewardship of the earth through science, education and exploration of volcanic landscapes.  Mount St. Helens is a living outdoor laboratory for all! 

The Mount St. Helens Institute offers a variety of programs to connect people of all ages to the wild wonders, amazing science, breathtaking scenery, and cultural history of Mount St. Helens.

MAY 13 | IT’S A BLAST

  • 10am – 6pm @ the Johnston Ridge Observatory & the Science and Learning Center

JUNE 10 | ART ERUPTION

11:00am Adult Mixed Media Workshop: Use ink, paint, and smoke to make a one of a kind print to take home. The workshop will be guided by award winning water media painters Susie Cowan and Lee Baughman of Art-Adventures.com. This workshop is best suited for youth 16+ and adults.  $15/person SIGN UP NOW

OCTOBER 15 | CARNIVAL OF COLORS

  • 11am – 5pm @ the Science and Learning Center
  • JOIN US FOR: Live music by Caspar Babypants (artist Chris Ballew from The Presidents of the United States of America), face painting by Kelsey the Face Painting Lady, OMSI traveling exhibits featuring brain teasers and animal items, activities and crafts for all ages, at workshops with Natalie Tonn, Mount St. Helens photobooth station with props, and lunch available.
  • By registering in advance, you save $5/person and will get a pumpkin to decorate and take home!  
  • Program pricing: $10.00 per person

  • Online registration closes 10/14, tickets are available at the door for $15/person

  • Children under 2 years old are free

  • Reservations are not refundable, but are transferable.

Past Summer on the Mountain Events

2016 events included: It’s a Blast, Music on the Mountain, Sky and Star Party, Art Eruption, Family Camp, Carnival of Color.

Despite some challenging weather, we had an amazing total of 1063 participants between all 6 summer events! Thank you to everyone who supported and/or attended these events.
