Sunday Hiking Program
Mount St. Helens Institute's 2009 SUNDAY HIKES:
Explore the Gifford Pinchot’s wonderful trails as you stay fit and meet new friends!
Participants will accompany a volunteer leader and a group of other like minded trail enthusiasts on trips that range from moderate to difficult.
Families are welcome. All hikers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Please bring appropriate gear for hiking: boots, hiking poles, layered clothing, water, lunch, ten essentials.

APRIL 19--HAMILTON MOUNTAIN LOOP * 7-6 miles, Difficult, 2000 Ft. elevation gain. Next to the popular Beacon Rock but with views of Hardy Falls and Rodney Falls, Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and Table Rock. http://mshisundayhike1.eventbrite.com.

MAY 31--LEWIS RIVER FALLS

JUNE 14 -- WINDY RIDGE TO LOOWIT FALLS 8.8 miles, Difficult, 800 ft. elevation gain View Spirit Lake and then climb towards the crater of Mount St. Helens for a wonderful view of Loowit Falls. http://mshisundayhike5.eventbrite.com
JUNE 28 -- SILVER STAR MOUNTAIN* 8.7 miles, Difficult, 2100 ft. elevation gain Via Ed's Trail, hike throug a natural arch, visit Indian Pits, views of Mount St. Helens and wildflowers. http://mshisundayhike6.eventbrite.com
JULY 12 -- BLUE LAKE TRAIL 9.8 miles, Difficult, 1300 ft. elevation gain. Redrock Pass trailhead to Blue Lake, through fields of lupine with nice views of Mount St. Helens, Goat Mountain and Blue Lake. http://mshisundayhike7.eventbrite.com
JULY 26 -- SPIRIT LAKE 7.2 miles, Moderate, 340 ft. elevation gain. Independence Pass to Norway Pass. Explore the northeaast side of Spirit Lake with views across to Mount St. Helens. http://mshisundayhike8.eventbrite.com
AUGUST 9-- SOUTH COLDWATER LAKE 6.4 miles, Moderate, 1330 ft. elevation gain. Hike along Coldwater Lake and enjoy views of Mount St. Helens. http://mshisundayhike9.eventbrite.com
AUGUST 23-- SIOUXON CREEK 7.8 miles, Moderate, 700 ft. elevation gain. Hike to Chinook Creek Falls through beautiful stands of old growth forest. http://mshisundayhike10.eventbrite.com
SEPTEMBER 13-- INDIAN RACETRACK VIA PCT 7.5 mile loop, Moderate, 1300 ft. elevation gain. Visit the fields of huckleberries and enjoy the last days of summer. http://mshisundayhike11.eventbrite.com
